Overview

Xanga a website operated by Xanga.com, Inc provides users access to weblogs, photoblogs, and social networking profiles. Users are able to modify their personal xanga's via skins and layouts. Xanga is free to the public, but also offers a premium and a premium plus package which offers additional photo storage and updates. A major controversy among xanga users is the use of HTML encoders to scramble codes. Because Xanga'a encoding is not bound by Xanga's javascript blocks users can encode their own tags and manipulate encoded script into thinking that it is safe.

History

Xanga's orgins can be traced back to 1998, when it started as a site for sharing book and music reviews. It is now hosts around 40 million users, and is one of the top visited sites on the internet.

Opinion

Xanga was my first taste of social networking/blogging, but today could never image myself having one.
